Poor little Duncan - Part II!

We just got back from the vet and poor little Duncan is still loopy from being sedated!  But it didn't stop him from trying to play with his kitty tease!  Poor little guy is so hungry but I can't feed him for another half hour!  The vidoes are a bit grainy due to poor lighting but I'm not sure how to fix that.

Poor little Duncan.

Took Duncan to the vet this morning and had to leave him there.  He's such a little wild man that they have to put him under to clean out his ear.  He's had recurring infections since he came home with me and its back again so they want to thoroughly clean the ear and be able to put the medicine in so that, hopefully, it won't come back yet again.  I just can't believe how lost I feel without him, tho!  He hasn't even been here for a full year but he's become such a huge part of my life that the house just feels so empty without him running around getting into everything!  Crazy damn cat!  He's really such a good little boy -- head butting for kisses and cuddling with me -- but take him to the vet and he turns into Psycho Kitty!  Can't wait to pick him up this evening!

Duncan's new cat tree!

Now that Duncan has learned how to get up onto the wall unit, he's having trouble getting DOWN!  So, mama to the rescue!  I just ordered a new cat tree to make it easier for him to get up and down!  Of course, now I have to figure out where to put all the stuff that's in that corner of my living room to accommodate the new cat tree when it arrives!  Yup, never a dull moment with Duncan in the house!

New explorations, new disappointments!

Duncan has finally conquered the top of the wall unit!  However, his victory was short-lived.  Mean ol' mama took all the palms off!  For years now, every Palm Sunday I dutifully brought my palms home from church and put them on top of the wall unit so they'd be out of harm's way with Sybil and Esa and life was good.  Then along came Duncan!  I was convinced it was a simple matter of him being a "tree dweller" that held the attraction for the top of the wall unit but it seems it was those palms that held the magic.  So after all that work figuring out how to get up there, poor little Duncan's dreams were dashed when I cleaned out the palms!  Now I REALLY have to get to Petco and buy some more of his favorite kitty teasers!  Of course, now there's the temptation of the kitty angel hanging from the ceiling and just out of reach from the wall unit as you can see in the second picture!

Oh my aching back!!

Well, Duncan strikes again!  My cell phone -- which is also my ONLY phone! -- was charging so when my niece called, I put her on speaker so we could chat and leaned on the counter while we were talking.  BIG MISTAKE!  Duncan had been running around getting the crazies out and I should have known better!  Before I knew what was happening, he was on the kitchen table, leaped from there to MY BACK and then clambered up onto the oven range hood!  Poor Ellie!  All she could hear was OWOWOWOW!!!!  Never a dull moment with Duncan around!  He always has to be the center of attention and the subject of all conversations!  LOL!

The REAL joy of retirement

For some strange reason, I woke up really early this morning.  Well, ok, for me anything before 10:00 a.m. is early so a little before 8:00 a.m. is the butt crack of dawn in my new world!  Having to get up at 6:00/6:30 a.m. for years was just an obscenity!

Anyway!  It was a nice morning -- watching tv, emailing with friends, chatting on Facebook and just being lazy and enjoying the dickens out of it.  I figured I'd wind up taking a nap at some point having gotten up so early but didn't think it would be so early or so enjoyable.  Duncan had been doing his usual thing, checking the world outside from his favorite window, begging for crunchies and just enjoying being a cat!  Then he curled up behind me on the top of the couch for a snooze.  Well, I leaned back to give him a kiss and he decided it was time to nap on top of mama so he climbed onto my chest, curled up and started purring to beat the band!  I'm telling you, when this cat purrs, his entire body vibrates all the way down to his back paws!  Needless to say, we both conked out!  And there's nothing in the world as wonderful as napping with a purring kitty curled up on top of you.  THIS really is the best part of being retired!

New pix of the crazy cat!

Right now Duncan is sound asleep on top of the couch.  Come bedtime, tho, he'll be wide awake and ready to play!  These pix were taken last night when we were SUPPOSED to be getting ready to go to sleep because I had to be up early this morning.  Needless to say, when the alarm went off, I could barely move!  But it was so worth it -- Duncan just makes me laugh so hard!

Giving mama the "Isn't it time to go to bed?" look:

We made it to the bedroom and Duncan decided it was time to scale the curtain rod!

From there he perched on the lingerie chest and gave me his sleepy eyes!

And then it was time to climb to the very top of the hutch on one of my bureaus and do his "cute kitty" pose!  Just wish I could have gotten a shot of him when he stuck his head BEHIND the hutch and went into lunatic mode, twisting his body around the narrow ledge that he's sitting on!  Oh well, maybe next time -- because we all KNOW there WILL BE A NEXT TIME!

After these pix were taken we FINALLY got to bed and then it was time to play with the blanket mice!  14 pounds of cat THROWING himself on my feet every time they twitch!

FINALLY!

Still can't figure out how to get Duncan's video up on here but I WAS able to get it posted to youtube!  YAY!  Finally you can all see how adorable my little guy is when he plays with his kitty tease!

BANG goes the kitty dishes!

Well, Duncan has figured out how to let me know when he's hungry!  First he tries "little" things like emptying out the dish towel drawer and when that doesn't work he bangs his food dish around hitting it into his crunchy bowl!  I swear this cat is the most brilliant little guy!  He's definitely figured out how to communicate with his human!

Total, unconditional love.

Sitting here watching the Giants/Niners game while Duncan was napping on his crinkle sack and catnip blanket and emailing with a friend about the game.  Duncan woke up, came over and jumped up onto my lap and just leaned into me -- his signal that he wants to cuddle.  So, of course, the emailing stopped and I just hugged him and he climbed up onto my chest and snuggled, head butting for kisses and purring like a crazy thing!  There's nothing in this world better than the total, unconditonal love of a kitty.  I am so blessed!  And I love this cat more than anything!

DAMN CAT!!

Now that I'm retired, I've been going through things and cleaning house.  So I've got a BIG bag of pjs and other clothes to go to the Good Will bin -- which, of course, I forgot to take with me today when I went to the supermarket!  Big head smack!  Also, it being winter, I have a snack tray set up between the book shelves and the wall unit for the space heater.  And, yes, these 2 things really are related!  LOL!  In Duncan's world, ALL things are related!

So.  The wall unit.  Duncan has rediscovered the wall unit.  He gets up on the snack tray where the space heater is -- he never does this when its on, though! -- and from there, onto the book shelves.  From the book shelves, he gazes longingly at the top of the wall unit.  Now, mind you, the wall unit is where I moved the glass case with the hat in it for safekeeping.  I also have a couple other glass cases there as well as pictures, palms from Church and other tchotchkes which is why I don't want him up there.  However, as Jackson Galaxy would say, Duncan is a tree dweller.  He LOVES being up as high as he can get and that wall unit is his current holy grail!  So now I need to get my little ladder out and start rearranging the top of my wall unit because he is determined to get up there!

And this is where the bag of clothes for Good Will comes in!  Duncan has a way of making his point loud and clear!  Obviously I'm taking WAY too long getting around to clearing off the wall unit for his taste so he has now decided that pulling all the clothes OUT of the bag is his way of dropping hints!  He's gone from emptying drawers to emptying that damned bag!  And, no, I'm not imagining this or attributing human qualities to a cat that are out of line!  He was out here perched on the bookshelves, gazing at the top of the wall unit and I chased him off so he went right into the bedroom and emptied the entire bag of clothing!  Little devil!  If he can't get his way, he makes damned sure I know he's pissed!  Only THIS time, I caught him in the act!  He was STUNNED when I came into the bedroom while he was in the middle of his retaliatory act and he just FROZE!  LOL!  I quite loudly explained to him that, if I wanted to pick up after someone else, I'd have gotten married again!  Well, since then, he's been sulking in the bedroom so I guess I should get busy on fixing the problem while he's being quiet!

Nosy Parker!

Its REALLY cold here today but I try to keep a window open just a little bit anyway because I am a smoker but I hate the smell of smoke in the house.  Evidently, Duncan agrees!  He also loves checking out everything that happens outside!

Curses! Foiled again!

Duncan found a way to beat my rubber band barrier so I tightened the rubber band and he must have been frustrated trying to get into the cabinet so now he's back to pulling all my dish towels and cloths out of the bottom drawer again!  Now I really have to find a way to keep him out of that drawer!  And when I figure that out, maybe it'll work on my lingerie chest drawer, too!  More and more, I'm thinking maybe its time to call Jackson Galaxy!

Duncan and Queen Latifah

Saw Queen Latifah on Leno the other night and she was talking about how when she was about 3 and her brother was about 5, her brother got her to join him in tossing things out their window.  I forget what floor they were on but she talked about how they started tossing things like eggs just to see them go SPLAT on the sidewalk below.  Well, evidently Duncan was paying close attention!  Today he got my top drawer open again and just tossed measuring spoons, my mini whisk and things like that just to watch them hit the floor and see what kind of sounds they would make and how long it would take for mom to come charging in to see what the racket was all about!  Crazy damn cat!  It really is a good thing he's such a cutie patootie!

Spoiled much?!

Ok, I have got to have THE most spoiled cat EVER!  Duncan's favorite thing in the world is his treats but now he's gotten very fussy about them!  I bought a bag of his favorite treats and he keeps begging for them but when I put them out, he just fusses at them!  WTF?!  I try to keep him away from any kind of fish/seafood because I worry about FUS but it seems he's burned out on cheese, chicken, turkey and beef.  Little bugger!  That was the one way I could count on getting him to stop being naughty and now he's pitching a fit because they're BORING!  OY!  How spoiled do you have to be to turn your nose up at TREATS?!  LOL!  Tomorrow's grocery shopping day so I guess I'm going to have to break down and get him some seafood treats.  Anything to keep my little boy happy, right?!  Yeah, I am SO whipped!

Another post?!

Well, I did promise myself that once I retired I'd keep up with this blog -- and Duncan just provides so many little stories!  Like last night.  Evidently he decides when it's time to go to bed now.  I love being able to stay up and watch Jay Leno now that I don't have to be up at 6:00 a.m. and was enjoying his monologue last night when all hell broke loose.  First, he pulled open the kitchen drawer and emptied all my kitchen towels and dish cloths again.  Then it was the bottom drawer of my lingerie chest -- all my slips were all over the floor this time!  Next my coin bank was on the floor.  Then the running through the house started with screeching stops to give me "the look" and then run into the bedroom!  Every time I got up to see what he was up to, I'd find him in the bedroom doorway hollering at me!  I finally gave up and went to bed only to find that he'd worked himself up into such a frenzy that NOW it was play time!  We started out playing with the blanket mice and then he was up in his window bed.  When I put my hand up to pet him, I got swatted!  So I pulled the blankets up over my head and WHAM!  He pounced on my head hard enough that I saw stars!  Crazy cat!  LOL!  Finally, after about half an hour of crazy time, we both settled down and conked out and when I woke up this morning he was all curled up on my arm, purring like the little angel he truly is.  How on earth did I ever manage without this little guy?!  He is absolutely the light of my life!

Duncan vs Crocheting

Duncan 1/Crocheting 0!  I haven't been doing much crocheting lately for a number of reasons but today I just felt like working on my current project.  So, I pick up the blanket, start working and that was exactly when Duncan decided it was time to play and in he comes with one of his bottle caps.  Put the crocheting down, toss the cap, pick the crocheting up, put it down, toss the cap, pick the blanket up, here he comes again with the cap.  Put the blanket down, toss the cap, pick the blanket up, put it down, toss the cap and give up on crocheting!  Yeah, life with Duncan is never boring!

What a life!

My errands for the day are done and I'm back home hanging out with Duncan.  Since I've been online, he decided it was time for a nap in his favorite daytime spot -- right behind my head on the top of the couch!  Being retired is wonderful mostly because I get to spend a lot of my time with my little guy!  Of course, HE thinks my being retired is great, too -- mainly because he can beg for treats all day long now!  LOL!

Duncan's newest "trick"!

Well, my little monster has a new trick!  He discovered a while ago that he could open my silverware drawer and toss things out so now he's moved onto the bottom drawer where I store my dish towels and cloths!  I've never met such a BUSY little kitty!  Note the rubber band on the doors next to the drawer -- that's how I keep him out from under the sink where all the cleaning supplies are kept!  At this rate, it'll be a miracle if he makes it to the age of 2!  LOL!  How do you make the world's most curious kitty understand that NO means NO and that some things are dangerous, especially when he's also the world's greatest hit & run act?!  By the time I get into the kitchen, he's in the bedroom looking like innocence itself!
