BAD mama!

Poor little Duncan!  He spent the night trapped in the closet in the spare bedroom!  With all the sorting and clearing out I've been doing, I've been in and out of that closet and USUALLY I'm very good about making sure he's not in there when I close the door but somehow or other I missed him yesterday.  I'm not sure how long he was in there simply because I can't remember when I was in there last, but when I went to bed last night he didn't come in for our snuggle time but that's not all that unusual since I've been giving him his ear drops -- some nights he's just too pissed to cuddle with me! -- but when I got up this morning and put his food out and he still didn't come running, I knew something was wrong!  I could hear meowing but it seemed so faint that at first I thought it was a cat outside.  I never would have heard him last night between the tv and the air conditioners running but at 10:00 a.m. everyone has pretty much gone to work so the house is pretty quiet.  Following the sounds, I realized quite quickly that it was coming from inside the house and it was my poor little boy.  When I opened the door to the closet, there he was looking all confused -- he had no idea what he'd done to deserve being shut up in "kitty jail" all night!  I would never lock him in a closet no matter what he'd done or how bad he'd been but he seemed to think he'd been REALLY bad!  I scooped him up and gave him hugs and kisses all the while telling him how sorry I was and what a good boy he was -- he'd pulled stuff off the shelves but after all that time, he never messed in the closet! -- and took him in the kitchen so he could have his breakfast.  Poor little guy was starving after his ordeal!  He gobbled his breakfast down, took a long drink of water and then came over and laid down at my feet as if to apologize for being a bad boy!  Well, that was all it took -- I was a mess!  I picked him up, cuddled the daylights out of him and bawled my eyes out -- and he never tried to get away, even tho mama was getting his fur all wet!  It took a huge effort to put his ear drops in this morning -- I felt like I was punishing him all over again! -- but he was so contrite that he never made a sound and never struggled, just let me put the drops in without a single complaint, which just made me feel even worse!  Unfortunately, I had my hair appointment this morning so I had to leave him but we've been snuggling all day to make up for his being locked in that closet!  Now I'm going to be even more vigilant about making sure he's not in a closet before I close it!

Some more pix of my sweet little boy.

He's just so darned cute and the camera just loves him -- almost as much as I do!  Here's two of his favorite nap spots.  Right now he's on top of the wall unit again!

Smile!

Duncan has a problem with furballs but, unlike my Sybil, he doesn't seem to like olive oil.  I used to give her a tablespoon of Bertolli Extra Virgin LIGHT Tasting Olive Oil every day -- she was definitely fussy and that was the ONLY olive oil she liked! -- and that stopped the problem of her yakking all over the place but Duncan does like Petromalt so he gets a little blob in his bowl every day.  I went to fill it today and realized he'd left me a smiley face!  Such a talented little boy!

Duncan's BIG ordeal!

All the hissing, growling and spitting, you'd think the hordes of Hell were after him!  Poor little Duncan has another ear infection so we had to visit the dreaded vet today.  We really have the most wonderful vets and of all the amazing doctors there, Dr. Leary is my personal favorite.  Unfortunately for him, he got the job of checking Duncan out today!  He is the sweetest, most patient man ever -- if nothing else, years of treating my Sybil was a testament to his patience!  Even on her last day, she was able to work up a feeble little hiss for him!  Even thru the tears, she was able to make me laugh.  Oh how I miss her!  But this is about Duncan and his ordeal!

He's such a good little boy and never seems to grasp the fact that getting in his carrier means a trip to the vet!  He jumps right in and off we go -- unlike Esa who fought tooth and nail to stay out of that fearsome carrier!  Of course, the yowling starts as soon as we get in the car and he hollers all the way -- thankfully we only live about 10 minutes from the vet's office!  As soon as we walk thru the door, tho, the hissing and growling start, interspersed with pitiful pleas for someone to come rescue him!  By the time we get into the exam room, he's worked up a full head of steam and that's when the spitting starts!  This time I decided to let him stay in his carrier until Dr. Leary came in and he poked his head out a few times to look around -- possibly for an escape route?! -- but was content to just lie inside most of the time throwing out the occasional growl just to make sure I knew he wasn't happy!  When Dr. Leary came in he just asked a few questions and, I'm assuming, based on the hissing coming from the bowels of the carrier, decided to go get an assistant to help hold my ferocious guy down while he swabbed his ear.  It took all of maybe 10 seconds but you'd have thought it was the battle of Gettysburg!  The second it was over Duncan shot back into his carrier and continued growling until Dr. Leary left.  Then the pitiful begging to PLEASE just let us go home started!  He was so worked up he actually peed his carrier in his haste to get back inside!  So now his blanket is in the wash and he's had his treats and we're settling back into our normal routine.  That is, until it comes time to give him his new ear drops!  That should be TONS of fun!  I'm hoping that his new mellow attitude will allow me to get the drops in without too much of (MY!) blood being shed!  We'll see!  I really hope he lets me do this because the only other option is another (expensive!) trip back to the vet's for an ear flush.  Keeping my fingers crossed!
